You’re doing everything that’s supposed to make your life feel right. Yet, despite your accomplishments, you still feel a sense of unease or discomfort deep within. You follow all the “rules”. You’re checking all the boxes. You’re hustling. You're achieving. But it feels like you’re looking for something more.  “If I just get this… things will be complete and then I’ll be happy.” This thinking has allowed you to be incredibly successful by society’s standards- but your life still feels incomplete. Things can’t keep going on like this. Something has to change. 

I’m here to remind you that change is possible. I, too, find myself in the same struggle from time to time, so I truly know what it can feel like. Committing to yourself in this way may feel like hard work, but not the hard work you know. Together, we can embody and embrace curiosity, playfulness, and compassionate self-acceptance. This is where the real change takes place. 

My unique approach to therapy involves getting outside of the four walls of the traditional therapy room using nature-based walk-and-talk therapy; there we can truly be present with ourselves. I use a blend of embodiment practices, education, and most importantly, trust-building to reconnect with yourself and become more authentically aligned. I'm all about building up, not tearing down: about finding strength *through* your vulnerability, not in spite of it. Living your vulnerability—safely and intentionally—can be the act of compassion you've been looking for.

Additional Clinical Interests

  • Parent Coaching: Children make extensive efforts to feel part of a community, with the immediate family being the most valuable. When a child feels discouraged they engage in what we adults call “bad behavior”. My aim is to help you understand the goal of your child’s behavior in order to help them develop more socially useful ways to feel connected.

  • Nature-Based Child/Adolescent Therapy: By combining parent coaching with nature-based therapy sessions, you and your child can engage in learning experiences that extend beyond the four walls of the counseling office. We can explore your experiences and understand the goal of your child's behavior. After learning and implementing new skills, you will experience increased peace and reduced stress.

  • Chronic Pain: Pain is often the result of hiding from our fears, weaknesses, and frailties. If we want to move past our struggles, we have to develop the skills—and the courage—to call them by name. The brain cannot fix a problem it is not allowed to acknowledge. Through psychoeducation, meditation, and somatic movement, you will learn how to identify your own psychological guarding patterns and where they live in your body.

  • Anxiety: You feel like you’ve done all you can, but something still feels off. Part of you feels like it shouldn’t feel like this, but it does. Together, we can identify the social, cultural, and intrapersonal factors influencing your experiences. We will work together using mindfulness and somatic movement to better understand your experiences with anxiety. In doing, you will be able to more fully enjoy the life you want to live.

Professional
In whatever stage of life I am in, one thing has remained constant: my insatiable curiosity about how the body moves. I guided personal training classes while I was in the Navy, and became a certified yoga instructor while in college. As a recreation therapist, I help kiddos and young teens advocate for themselves using movement as medicine. I use a blend of coaching, education, and most importantly, trust-building to help clients reach their goals. 

Personal
From the cradle to today, I have cultivated and embodied several identities that are still part of me. Some are inherent; white, cisgender, youngest child, and male. Other ones I gravitated to because of cultural influences and personal choice; athlete, veteran, yoga instructor, and nature’s child. Elements of each identity continue to influence my growth in becoming a professional counselor. I recognize how the complexities of each identity can impact the therapeutic environment. Additionally, my clients embody a multitude of identities as well. Underneath the stories of all the roles we bring together into the counseling process, we are humans. I see movement as medicine and healing happens most effectively in the context of others. When I am feeling stuck or overwhelmed by life, I engage in the natural environment and utilize movement to fully explore what my body is trying to tell me. I'm all about building up, not tearing down: about finding strength *through* your vulnerability, not in spite of it.
